Cr Ruth McGowan, VLGA Interim President and ALGWA Committee Member Kate Lempriere elected to VLGA Board
Changes to the Victorian Local Governance Association (VLGA) board during July have seen ALGWA Executive member and former Councillor and Mayor of Cardinia Shire, Kate Lempriere elected on a countback to the board following the resignation of Damian Kingsbury. Kate Lempriere says.'I have great admiration for the intellect and common sense shown by the VLGA Board and administration on a wide range of issues over recent years and I was surprised yet delighted and trust that I can contribute in areas of social planning, development infrastructure and environmental and housing policy so as to benefit the wider community'.
ALGWA member Mayor Ruth McGowan from Baw Baw Shire was elected Vice President of the VLGA when elections were held in February this year. Cr Rose Iser, the VLGA President has stood aside while she contest pre-selection for the seat of Melbourne. During this time Cr McGowan, VLGA Vice President, will act as Interim President. Cr McGowan says I am looking forward to steeping up to the role of president for August and will continue to keep the focus on members' interests and concerns such as seeking a review of the complex Conflict of Interest Legislation by State Government and improving councils capacity to manage social issues such as affordable housing and gambling.
ALGWA Victoria congratulates Kate and Ruth on their new roles and is proud that the VLGA is in good hands with these dynamic women.
