The presentation to winner of the ALGWA study award was held on Thursday 15 October.

Minister for Women’s Affairs, The Hon Maxine Morand made the presentation to winner, Kathryn McBride at a Parliament House luncheon.

The objects of Association of ALGWA includes the clause:- 'To encourage women to make a career in Local Government', and one of the ways ALGWA does this is through our annual study award.

Kathryn was thrilled to receive the award and describing study as her gift to herself.  Kathryn is undertaking a Masters in Professional Accounting at Deakin University and this study provides the specialist skill and expertise to provide a professional level of financial planning and management skills.  She plans to complete this qualification by the end of 2011.

Kathryn is a co-ordinator of care services in the areas of aged and disability and is especially focused on providing leadership strategies that improve the opportunities of Community Care Workers who are often isolated in the nature of their work.

The 2009 ALGWA study award is in memory of Marie Wallace OAM JP.  Marie was a former State and National President of ALGWA.
