The Australian Local Government Women's Association is the peak body representing the interests of women in Local Government across Australia.

The Association has Branches in all States and the Northern Territory.

The Association seeks to assist in furthering women's knowledge, understanding and participation in the function of Local Government.

Membership is open to all interested in supporting and encouraging women's participation in Local Government.

ALGWA encourages and supports women to become actively involved in their communities and in the key decision making processes of Local Government.

With elections for all 78 Councils in Victoria being held on the 29th November 2008, now is the time to gather information and facts on the roles and responsibilities of elected members, and take up the challenge to become an elected representative in your community.

Women make up 51% of the Victorian population and are greatly underrepresented in Local Councils and the decision making processes for their communities. Of the elected members in Victorian Councils only 29% are women.
