Centenary History Launched!

As previously mentioned, a list of all known women Councillors has been prepared.  It is included in The right to vote; the right to stand: the involvement of women in local government in Victoria. This book details the legislative history of the right of women to be candidates, a right denied from 1863 and allowed only from 1914. The book also contains biographies of the first seven women Councillors, and brief details of the prohibitions against women voting at the municipal level.  It was launched on 6 November and is available for purchase at $15 plus $3 postage. (Members receive a substantial discount on the price.)   The first edition of 200 copies sold out within 3 weeks, and a second edition of 300 was released in December.  It too is selling well; as at 1st April only 40 copies remain.
